Local man to provide hurricane relief using school bus

SCOTSVILLE, Ky.- Kenny Gillock, a retired truck driver from Bowling Green, is on a mission to provide hurricane relief to those in need.

“I woke up Wednesday morning, felt the need to get out of the house, and I did,” he shared.

His determination has taken him on a long journey to help families affected by Hurricane Helene, bringing essential resources like water, clothes and tools. This marks his second trip to Tennessee, following a previous mission to Del Rio, where he witnessed firsthand the devastation caused by the storm.

“The drive to Johnson, Tennessee was four hours, but it took me almost nine hours to get back home from Del Rio,” Gillock recounted.

During his travels, he encountered homes completely destroyed and mud piles reaching up to 20 feet.

“It’s all going to be floodplain. I mean, it wiped these communities off the map,” he noted. The devastation was far worse than he could have ever imagined.

Yet, Gillock is not just delivering supplies; he’s also bringing hope. “Bowling Green is strong. We know how strong Bowling Green is. We’ve got to help our neighbors,” he said, emphasizing the importance of community support.

His efforts remind us that, even in the darkest times, compassion and resilience shine through. As he continues his journey, Gillock is committed to spreading hope and helping rebuild lives in the wake of disaster.

Gillock’s inspiring efforts are highlighting the power of community in times of crisis, and you can support Gillock before he leaves this weekend by dropping off supplies at 5353 Meador Port Oliver Road in Scottsville.
