Local chapter shares purpose during National Salvation Army Week

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – This week is known as National Salvation Army Week, and the Bowling Green chapter is hosting a week-long celebration to highlight the organization.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower believed the nonprofit played a key role in our nation. The first National Salvation Army Week took place in 1954. Eisenhower deemed this as an annual occurrence.

The Bowling Green chapter says they want to carry on the legacy by showcasing the organization’s history and impact.

They have been able to serve over 60,000 meals, provide over 15,000 beds and give out over 20,000 clothes, all in 2024.

While the Salvation Army does house a variety of services, this week, Capt. Johnny Horton says, is about reiterating the purpose behind the nonprofit. Horton reveals that the organization is “motivated by God.” He believes in “taking care of God’s creation” through serving others.

Horton expresses this gratitude for the Warren County and the Bowling Green community for giving to the nonprofit.
