FRANKLIN, Ky. – And they’re off!

A local racetrack began its first day of live horse racing today with no general public spectators.

Kentucky Downs in Franklin welcoming only horse owners and jockeys to the stands for Monday’s horse-racing kick-off for the 2020 season.

The Thoroughbreds took to the track racing multiple events throughout the day.

This comes following Saturday’s Kentucky Derby which also had no fans in the stands because of the virus.

Kentucky Downs is home to America’s only all turf racecourse and is one of the longest tracks in the nation.

Kentucky Downs opened its expansion, called The Mint, on Tuesday and will hold a ribbon-cutting this Friday.
