News 40 Weather | Rain Returns Along with Severe Risk

STORM THREAT INCREASES FOR 2ND HALF

A “mostly calm” night is in store for us tonight. That means an isolated shower or thunderstorm is possible but overall, most areas should be quiet and dry. It will be noticeably warmer with lows only falling to the mid-60s.

Futurecast

Wednesday starts out calm with partly sunny skies but our storm chances increase as we head into Wednesday night. There’s a marginal severe risk (1 out of 5) for a few severe storms, with damaging winds and heavy rain being the main threats. We go to a 2/5 “slight” risk for Thursday with a better chance of seeing severe storms. Once again, heavy rain (including the risk of flash flooding) and damaging winds (along with a spin-up tornado or two) are on the table as threats. Afternoon highs will warm to the mid- to upper 80s. We’ll dry out for the start of the weekend and temperatures will cool to the low 80s before storm chances and warmer temperatures arrive for the second half of the weekend, with high in the mid-80s.
