Lisa Rice Library opens cooling center for extreme heat

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Due to the extreme heat, the Lisa Rice Library has opened its cooling center for the week.

With heat indexes reaching triple digits, the library has opened its cooling center for anyone who wants to get out of the heat.

Located in meeting room one, those who use it can enjoy some cool fans, water, popsicles and a movie to escape the sun.

The library opens its cooling center anytime during the summer when temperatures begin to rise and heat becomes severe.

All of the Bowling Green community are welcome as the library continues to provide a place for everyone to cool off and relax.

“The cooling centers are open to anyone in the community, whether their AC is out or whether they’re outside and sheltered under the sun,” said Gracie Harris, community resilience lead at the Lisa Rice Library. “Last summer, we had a family of six that didn’t have AC, and so they all came in and did coloring pages and blue blocks, and watched a movie. So it’s just for anyone who needs some rest from the heat.”

The cooling center will remain open at Lisa Rice Library from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Friday, July 3.
