Lewisburg Elementary students competing in national recycling contest

LEWISBURG, Ky. – Logan Aluminum, Inc. and Lewisburg Elementary School are participating in the 2 Million Cans Recycling contest in an effort to recycle millions of empty aluminum beverage cans.
According to a release by Logan Aluminum, the contest, which will run through April 30, 2025, is a partnership with Can Manufacturers Institute and Recycling Is Like Magic!
“Lewisburg School is excited to participate once again in the 2 Million Can Contest.” said Grant Warren, principal at Lewisburg Elementary School. “This unique opportunity allows us to enrich the learning opportunities for our students with real world applications and collaboration. We are grateful for our friends at Logan Aluminum and the many ways they support our school and students each and every day.”
School across the U.S. will earn funds and prizes throughout this initiative.
Funding occurs when a school earns money from aluminum beverage cans collected and sold to a local scrap yard partner. In addition, the release says more funding will be possible through prizes for hitting specific recycling goals during the year.
Three schools will receive top prizes.
The prizes will include the following:
- 1st place at $3,000
- 2nd place at $2,000
- 3rd place at $1,000
- 75,000 cans pizza party for second or thirdgraders
- 150,000 cans will earn a $500 bonus for each school
- $250 per school for marketing
Every second or third grade student participating in the contest will also receive a free copy of “The Girl Who Recycled 1 Million Cans,” the book that inspired this recycling contest.
