Lewis County deputy struck, suspect dead after officer-involved shooting

TOLLESBORO, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police says a Lewis County deputy was shot and a suspect is dead following a law enforcement response on Tuesday.
According to KSP, its Critical Incident Response Team was requested by the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred just before 9:30 p.m. CST.
Authorities say they learned LCSO deputies and the Vanceburg Police Department were dispatched to a domestic violence incident on Little Cabin Creek near Tollesboro, where a male subject was reported to have been shooting a firearm.
Upon arrival, authorities say officers encountered 49-year-old Keith Truesdell of Vanceburg, who was armed with a gun.
Troopers say Truesdell fired the weapon toward officers, and one LCSO deputy was struck.
Authorities say deputies fired their agency-issued firearms, resulting in Truesdell sustaining life-threatening injuries.
Truesdell was transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital, where he later died.
The LCSO deputy sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, where they have since been released.
No other injuries have been reported, and the investigation remains ongoing.
