Lawmakers announce bill to legalize cannabis in Kentucky

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky lawmakers are announcing a bill to legalize cannabis in the state.

A group of democratic lawmakers are calling it the “Let’s Grow” bill. It would legalize cannabis for responsible adult use.

It would legalize sales, expunge marijuana crimes, treat people with medical marijuana and tax sales for recreational use.

Supporters say marijuana use is already happening in Kentucky so they believe it’s time for the state to make it legal.

District 67 Representative Rachel Roberts (D) said, “Make no mistake. Kentuckians are growing cannabis. Kentuckians are selling cannabis. They are consuming cannabis. We just aren’t regulating it for their safety of benefiting from the tax revenue it should be generating.”

Currently 37 states have some form of legalized cannabis.
