LONDON, Ky. – The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office says it is investigating a shooting that occurred Monday night.

According to Laurel County sheriff John Root, LCSO detective Taylor McDaniel is working the case that took place off of Hooppole Creek Road just after 9 p.m. on Jan. 13.

London-Laurel County 911 Communication Center dispatched deputies to a home at this location following reports of a male subject that was shot.

When law enforcement arrived, authorities say they learned two individuals allegedly had been assaulted by a male subject there who then apparently reached for a gun and was shot by a male subject there in alleged self-defense.

According to Root, the individual who was shot was injured in the upper torso and was flown to UK Med Center in Lexington for treatment of a serious injury.

Root says a pistol has been recovered from the scene.

The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office was also assisted by Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County and Bush Volunteer Fire Department.
