UPDATE: BG man’s vehicle hydroplanes, struck and killed by semi after exiting vehicle

SMITHS GROVE, Ky. – Kentucky State Police Post 3 is investigating a fatality on I65 on Tuesday evening.

KSP says it responded to a call at approximately 9 pm regarding a collision on I65 in Smiths Grove at the 38-mile marker northbound.

The preliminary investigation states that a red Kia Forte, occupied and operated by Anthony Hodge, 36 of Bowling Green, was traveling northbound. Hodge’s vehicle hydroplaned due to the weather, causing the vehicle to exit the roadway left and strike a median wall.

After the crash, Hodge exited his vehicle in the center lane.

A red 2025 Freightliner, operated and occupied by Alexander Kipnis, 64 of Techumseh, OK, was traveling north and struck Hodge.

The Warren County Coroner’s Office pronounced Hodge dead at the scene.

KSP Post 3 was assisted at the scene by Medical Center EMS, Warren County Coroner’s Office, and other KSP personnel.
