BARREN COUNTY, Ky. – With tragedies in recent years befalling school systems, the Barren County Sheriff’s Office is trying to help all the students in Barren County limits.

The community has in the past asked the sheriff what are we doing to be prepared as a community should an active shooter event come to Barren County, and this year, the sheriff’s office along with the help of TJ Regional Health will be collecting donations for a unique project.

Through the TJ Community Mission Foundation, donations are being taken up to craft 750 trauma kits for every classroom in Barren County School District, Glasgow Independent School District and Caverna Independent School District. The kits are 5-gallon food grade buckets donated from Martzetti, and contain an IFAK or individual first aid kit as well as water and other supplies. The kits are to both take care of any injuries sustained but also help students to stay in lock down more comfortably. They have things like trash bags and a shower curtain to offer privacy if a student could not access the restroom.

It’s a concept that BCSO and TJ are excited to execute and are asking the community to donate whatever they can to this endeavor. To sponsor the potentially life saving kit, visit http://www.tjregionalhealth.org.
