Kentucky Transportation Cabinet discusses the benefits of roundabouts

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Road safety has always been a top priority from transportation officials, however, some are upset over changes coming to Warren County roads.

More roundabouts have been installed since the first one was put in near Western Kentucky University’s campus, and studies have shown that roundabouts have greatly reduced the risk of serious and fatal accidents.

Wes Watt with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3 says if we want change, we have to think outside of the box, and while some may be upset with the changes, these roundabouts will be safer.

“If we want things to be different, we have to think different, and we can’t keep putting traffic signals everywhere. Otherwise, everywhere is going to look like Scottsville Road and Campbell Lane is going to be gridlock, and that’s where you’re seeing the safer roads solutions come into play,” Watt said.

While more roundabouts are on the way, KYTC District 3 will be exploring many other options to ensure safer roads.
