Kentucky State Police encourages safe driving choices during Labor Day weekend
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The Kentucky State Police is reminding drivers to make safe choices on the road over Labor Day weekend.
According to the agency, troopers will be joining multiple other law enforcement agencies in Operation C.A.R.E., or Crash Awareness and Reduction Effort.
The national safety initiative will take place Sept. 4-7, authorities say.
Throughout the weekend, troopers say they will increase patrols on highways and interstates to stop impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving and failure to wear seatbelts.
KSP Post Three commander Tim Adams explains the importance of this safety effort.
“Many people will hit the road during Labor Day Weekend to attend celebrations, see family and more,” Post Commander Tim Adams said. “Our troopers will be active on the roadways making sure the people in our community get to and from their destinations safely. We want to encourage drivers to make smart choices, avoid distractions and never get behind the wheel if they’ve been drinking.”
KSP offers these safety reminders for drivers this Labor Day:
- Plan ahead – If you plan to drink, arrange a safe ride before you start. Designate a driver, use a rideshare or stay overnight.
- Wear your seatbelt – It’s the simplest step you can take to protect yourself in a crash, and it’s required by law.
- Move over for emergency vehicles – Give first responders room to work safely. If you can’t change lanes, slow down significantly.
- Put the phone away – Distracted driving is dangerous. Keep your focus on the road.
