Jennings Creek Elementary hosts bike safety rodeo
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Students from one local school spent their morning learning the rules of the road, all thanks to Norton Children’s Hospital.
Wednesday morning, fourth and fifth graders from Jennings Creek Elementary got to participate in a bike safety rodeo.
This event takes place at Kentucky schools throughout the school year and is designed to teach hands-on bicycle safety.
Children got to learn the importance of wearing helmets and how to safely ride in their neighborhoods before hopping on bikes and riding through a course to practice what they’ve learned.
Doug Beckhart, a bicycle safety educator with Norton Children’s Hospital, shared one of the most important things children need to stay safe.
“Number one is put your helmet on always. You know, we’ve got e-bikes and the motorized scooters and they’re going twice as fast as a normal bike. So the kids really need to wear a helmet,” Beckhart says.
Officials also say the biggest goal is to make sure kids can stay safe while learning healthy riding habits along the way.
