It’s American Heart Month, let’s get healthy
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – February is American Heart Month and healthcare providers remind us it’s not too late to get healthy.
News 40 spoke to a dietitian about the importance of a healthy lifestyle in regard to heart health, and she told us the best kind of diet is one that is low in fat, sodium, cholesterol and high in fiber. Cathy Gill at TJ Samson said that a poor diet can lead to a build-up of plaque in the blood vessels, which can eventually lead to heart disease.
The station also spoke to Med Center staff who said that when it comes to keeping your heart healthy, even just 10 minutes of walking is effective. Sarah Widener, Director of Health & Wellness told News 40 that high blood pressure is so dangerous because it’s asymptomatic, but small steps like riding a bike and making healthy food choices make quite an impact.
