Isenbarger, Horton named CUSA Athletes of the Week
DALLAS – WKU Track and Field Senior Katie Isenbarger and Freshman Kameron Horton have been named Conference USA Athletes of the Week. Isenbarger was picked as the Female Field Athlete of the Week, Horton was named both Male Freshman and Track Athlete of the Week.
On the athletes being honored, head coach Brent Chumbley said “Katie is having a great Senior year and her work is showing. She has a lot left in her so the next month will be exciting. Kameron is doing exactly what we hope freshmen do. He shows up everyday with a great attitude and works hard. I could not be happier for both Hilltoppers.”
Isenbarger was chosen following her outstanding showing at the Joe Walker Invitational over the weekend. There, she set the new school record in the high jump, clearing 1.86 meters, breaking her own previous record of 1.82. Her jump ranks first in CUSA, second in the NCAA DI East Region, and fifth in all of NCAA DI.
The occasion marks the fifth time Isenbarger has been named Field Athlete of the Week, the first this season for the native of Zionsville, Ind. Isenbarger has competed in all three outdoor meets for the Hilltoppers, claiming first place in each one. Two of Isenbarger’s three jumps rank inside the top-10 in NCAA DI with the third inside the top-40.
Kameron Horton is receiving the honor of Freshman and Track Athlete of the Week for the first time. The native of Louisville, Ky. has played a significant role in the team’s sprint and hurdle groups, placing in the top-10 in all six of his events this outdoor season. The list is highlighted by his showing in the Joe Walker Invitational where he set a new PR in the 110 meter hurdles with a mark of 14.66.
In the 100 meter dash, Horton claimed a first place finish, marking the second time with the other being the 200 at the Hilltopper Relays.
Isenbarger, Horton, and the Hilltoppers are set to compete next at the Jim Green Invitational, April 19-20 hosted by the University of Kentucky.
