Inmate death at Logan County Detention Center under investigation

LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. – An investigation is underway after authorities say an inmate at the Logan County Detention Center was found dead on Monday.
According to a release by the jail, deputies were conducting cell checks around 7:44 a.m. and found all inmates accounted for at that time.
However, during another cell check for all inmates around 8:07 a.m., the release states an inmate was found unresponsive and not breathing. The jail states this resulted in a medical emergency call over the radio, prompting a response from medical staff and deputies to provide aid.
EMS was notified as medical staff and deputies began CPR, which continued until EMS arrived, the release states.
The inmate was transported by ambulance to emergency services at Logan Memorial Hospital.
According to the jail, after all medical options were attempted, the emergency room physician determined the patient was dead. Due to the nature of this incident, the Kentucky State Police Post 3 was notified and is continuing a death investigation.
