GLASGOW, Ky. – A man faces criminal charges after a standoff in Glasgow.

Glasgow Police Department Major Terry Flatt says an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Benjamin Haines, of Bloomington, Indiana, Sunday afternoon.

Haines fled the traffic stop, struck another vehicle, and had a standoff with police in the parking lot of Big Lots located at 942 Happy Valley Road.

Flatt says after Haines stopped his vehicle, he did not comply with officers’ commands.

Haines allegedly remained in his vehicle for an extended period.

Flatt says officers deployed less-than-lethal rounds into the vehicle window to gain entry and then took Haines into custody.

Haines was transported to TJ Samson Community Hospital for medical evaluation. Flatt says no injuries were reported.

Haines is charged with no registration plates, no registration receipts, disregarding a traffic control device, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident-failure to render aid, first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), first-degree wanton endangerment, failure to or improper signal and resisting arrest.

The investigation is ongoing.
