Independence man charged with murder in shooting death of woman

INDEPENDENCE, Ky. – An Independence man is behind bars after being arrested on a murder charge.
On Dec. 15, Independence police were called to conduct a well-being check on Amberly Harris, 32, at her residence in Beechgrove Drive.
Upon arriving, officers found Harris dead in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to the head.
Joe Powell, 55, shared the residence with the victim, according to a release by the Commonwealth’s Attorney Office of Kenton County. The release further states authorities took Powell into custody and questioned him at the Independence Police Department.
Powell was later charged with murder – domestic violence. He could face up to 20 to 50 years of life in prison.
