Inaugural Blueberry Music Festival draws crowd to Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WNKY) – Hundreds of people gathered in Warren County over the weekend for the inaugural Blueberry Music Festival, a new event that combined live music, local vendors, food, and family activities in an effort to create a unique summer tradition in Bowling Green.

Despite periods of rain throughout the day, festival organizers said attendance exceeded expectations for a first-year event. Visitors spent the day enjoying live performances while also taking part in activities including blueberry picking, inflatables, farm animal exhibits, face painting, and vendor shopping.

Festival organizer Spence Sheldon said the response from the community was encouraging.

“So far it’s been a remarkable turnout,” Sheldon said. “We’ve seen probably over 600 to 800 people so far. We’re only halfway through the lineup and all our vendors have done really well and people are enjoying themselves.”

The event was organized in a relatively short period of time, but organizers said strong community support helped bring the festival together. Sheldon noted that the goal was to create an experience that offered something for everyone, rather than focusing solely on the music.

In addition to live performances, attendees had opportunities to pick blueberries, interact with farm animals, enjoy children’s activities, and support local businesses and food vendors throughout the day.

Sheldon said the festival also filled a niche for family-friendly entertainment in the area.

“It means that the town was missing something like this,” he said. “I just feel like we fill the void in something family friendly for everyone to get out.”

Organizers say they hope the event will continue to grow in future years. Plans being discussed include expanding the festival’s footprint, adding additional stages, and attracting larger musical acts.

For now, organizers view the inaugural festival as a successful first step toward establishing a new annual event in Bowling Green, one they hope will continue bringing together residents and visitors alike.
