Impeachment Inquiry: Trump won’t participate

(NBC News) President Trump’s lawyers will not participate as the ongoing impeachment hearings enter their next phase.

A White House lawyer wrote the House Judiciary Committee Sunday stating “We do not intend to participate in your Wednesday hearing” calling it an “unfair” and “irretrievably broken process.”

The Intelligence Committee is expected to hand over its findings Tuesday from last month’s hearings on whether the president was wrong to withhold aid from Ukraine while asking for a political favor.

Republicans want the man who led those hearings to testify. They argue Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff is biased.

Lawmakers are expected to consider charges of bribery, abuse of power and obstruction of justice for directing White House staff to defy subpoenas.

Democrats are hoping for a full vote before Christmas, setting the stage for a trial in January.
