Venus finishes Australian Open loss on injured ankle, knee

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Venus Williams has exited the Australian Open in the second round after injuring her right ankle and left knee but continuing to play until the match was over. Williams was trailing in the first set when she got hurt and needed two medical timeouts for treatment from a trainer. The 40-year-old American returned to the court after a long delay but she couldn’t run and ended up losing to 2012 French Open runner-up Sara Errani 6-1, 6-0. Williams is a seven-time Grand Slam singles champion and was the oldest woman in the field at Melbourne Park.
