Midyear freshman enrollees are taking advantage of an extra year of eligibility to play right away in college basketball this season. The NCAA’s decision opened the door for signees to graduate from high school early and join their college programs. That gives them a chance to get started on their long-term development and learn their college systems. Dayton found an every-game starter in forward Mustapha Amzil from Finland. Other schools such as No. 1 Gonzaga, No. 4 Ohio State, No. 20 Southern California, Wake Forest, UCLA, Oregon and Maryland have freshman midyear enrollees seeing work in reserve roles.
