Former snooker player Willie Thorne dies at 66

Former snooker player Willie Thorne has died at the age of 66 after a battle with leukaemia. Thorne was one of Britain’s most distinctive sportsmen in the 1980s because of his bald head. World Snooker chairman Barry Hearn says the charismatic Thorne played a big role in the game becoming so popular in Britain that decade when snooker was at its peak and watched by millions. Thorne had been placed into an induced coma in the hospital in Spain over the weekend after suffering respiratory failure. His death was announced on a message on his GoFundMe page.
