Deegan ready to move on from slur and shine in NASCAR

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — NASCAR driver Hailie Deegan needed sensitivity training for using a derogatory word for the disabled in a virtual racing event. She courted controversy at last season’s Daytona 500 when she asked then-President Donald Trump to sign her helmet. Deegan is only 19 years old and has already been pushed as a future face of NASCAR. Deegan hopes the next steps in her career aren’t as rocky as the ones she’s already navigated. She is to make her NASCAR debut in the Trucks Series season opener on Friday night at Daytona.
