Citing virus, Iran says it’s ready for prisoner swap with US

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iranian media is reporting that Iran says it is ready for unconditional prisoner swap talks with the United States because of fears that the coronavirus could put the lives of the prisoners at risk. Iranian officials say the U.S has yet to reply to the offer. Last week, U.S. officials reported making progress in efforts to secure the release of a detained Navy veteran in Iran. But they rejected Iranian suggestions that a swap was in the works for the imprisoned Iranian American officials have been trying to deport since last year. Trump administration officials say they consider the release of American hostages to be a high priority.
