Australian Open: No-look shot in Serena’s win; COVID fan ban

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Serena Williams used a no-look shot to help complete a comeback at an Australian Open where spectators will be banned as of Saturday because of a local five-day lockdown. A coronavirus flareup at a hotel led the government to restrict people’s movements so no fans can attend for the time being but the Grand Slam tournament will be allowed to continue. Williams called that development “not ideal.” Her win put her into a fourth-round match against seventh-seeded Aryna Sabalenka. Other winners include past Grand Slam champions Naomi Osaka, Simona Halep and Garbiñe Muguruza, and 2020 U.S. Open runner-up Alexander Zverev.
