Howard resigns as head coach of Gator football
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Friday, Greenwood football head coach William Howard resigned from the position, allowing him to spend more time with his family, per athletic director Alex Holder.
Howard was named the KHSAA Class 5A District 2 Coach of the Year and Kentucky Class 5A Coach of the Year this past season after going 7-5 and leading the Gators to a playoff victory over Madisonville-North Hopkins.
In his eight seasons leading the program, Howard became the winningest coach in school history, amassing a total of 48 wins.
Under his direction, Greenwood has been competitive each year, finishing above .500 in five of eight seasons, and various players even made strides to play college football.
“Greenwood High School sincerely appreciates Coach Howard’s leadership, hard work, and dedication, as well as the lasting impact he has made on countless student-athletes throughout his tenure,” Holder said in a press release.
The Gators are now the fourth local football squad set to fill a vacant head coaching seat, joining Russellville, Warren East and Warren Central.
