How to handle grief during Valentine’s Day
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A day that most people see as a day of love is right around the corner, but some people may be experiencing grief.
Although Valentine’s Day may look like a day of love, if you’ve lost someone close to you that’s been in your life for a while, it can be difficult to enjoy the day, but health experts at Lifeskills have a few tips.
They recommend doing something fun that may not align with the holiday or finding ways to pour into yourself.
Erica Hanner, a licensed professional clinical counselor director of adult mental health services says, “It’s important to acknowledge that grief, not just, you know, to celebrate the other person, but also to honor yourself, you know, and being able to, instead of continuing to pour into that person who may not physically be here, to provide ourselves some relief.”
Hanner also says it doesn’t matter if it’s been two years or 20 years, grief can be difficult for everyone, so give yourself grace.
