Helping children maintain good mental health while snowed in
KENTUCKY – With school being canceled throughout the area due to the weather and many parents working from home, children are restricted to the amount of social interaction they can receive during the day.
This can lead to a strain on their mental health, according to Youth Villages.
Some ways that you can help prevent your child from having cabin fever is to find ways for them to exercise, maintaining a good sleep schedule and setting a routine to keep their brains active.
Jessica Lacount with Youth Villages said, “Important that parents should do is schedule for the day if they’re working, or if the schedule is shifted cause they’re not going to school, what is it their schedule going to look like at home?”
“Kids really thrive off of the schedule, and it helps the parents handle the chaos and overwhelming mess a little bit,” she said.
Experts also say just doing a few chores, exercising or playing a board game with their siblings can help keep their spirits high.
