Hart County Animal Haven entering building phase

HART COUNTY, Ky. – The Hart County Animal Shelter is continuing to make progress on its new Animal Haven project.

The shelter broke ground in October of last year, and the project is expected to move into the building phase as early as this week.

The new Animal Haven is expected to include about 100 kennels, which would make it one of the largest shelters in the state.

The shelter says funding for the project has come from community donations, fundraising events and other local support to help make the new shelter a reality.

“Volunteers donate their services,” said Animal Director Anthony Roberts. “They come in and work with the dogs, helping the dogs. They bring food, bleach, cleaning supplies, towels, used towels…anything that the shelter needs. If I put it on Facebook and say we need something, the community comes together and brings it out.”

Staff say through the shelter’s dedication and support from Hart County, they believe the new Animal Haven will have a positive impact on both the dogs and the community.

“This will make us so much more efficient and reliable than we are right now,” Roberts said. “The current facility was not built big enough. We’ve researched and researched, and we decided this would help the county out. The community is pretty much ready for it, and it’s going to enhance the atmosphere for the dogs.”

The Hart County Animal Shelter says construction is expected to begin in the next couple of days, and they are looking forward to future fundraising events.
