Happy Birthday to Duncan Hines, the man behind the cake mix and so much more

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – March 26 is the birthday of the trailblazing food and travel influencer, foodie and vacation guide, Duncan Hines.

Fans may have known Hines for the brand of cake mix, which may have graced their shelves of pantries, bringing a sense of nostalgia. But Hines also hits close to home in another way: he’s a Bowling Green native.

He’s also a well-traveled local. “Recommended by Duncan Hines” captured restaurants in his “Adventures in Good Eating” travel guide.

But there’s another way to turn back time.

You can drive the Duncan Hines Scenic Byway, which passes through Warren and Edmonson counties.

Depending on where you start, the route begins or ends at the Duncan Hines historical marker located outside of the structure that Hines built in 1940 as his home and office at 3098 Louisville Road, which now serves as Hardy and Son Funeral Home, according to the Bowling Green Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.
