Hair salons shut down during COVID-19 pandemic

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – As of Wednesday, a number of different businesses throughout the state were mandated to close, including gyms, daycares, theaters and even hair salons.

Studio1 in Bowling Green is a business where stylists rent a booth to use the facility.

Christin Mulwitz, a master stylist, says the business isn’t making its stylists pay for booth rental during the closing.

She says many hairstylists are independently contracted, and therefore cannot apply for unemployment.

That is why she and so many others are concerned about an uncertain future.

Some businesses such as Ulta Beauty, which has a location in Bowling Green, are continuing to pay store and salon associates as well as provide benefits for those who are currently enrolled, according to the Ulta CEO.
