GRREC hosts fourth annual STEM-A-Thon

BOWLING GREEN, KY.- Students from 52 counties here in Kentucky got the chance to see STEM in a unique way.

Green River Regional Education Cooperative held its fourth annual STEM-a-thon, giving students in elementary and middle school a chance to discover technology on multiple levels.

Along with expanding their perspective, the students are learning more and more about STEM through hands-on experiences thanks to partnerships with businesses and organizations like General Motors, Apple, the Kentucky Mesonate, and many others.

“We are welcoming them to come and do robotics and coding … And also work through stations with our partners like TVA, Lost River Cave,” Dr. Savannah Denning, a GRREC Learning Services Coordinator, said. “Lots of community partners here just to help US think about what STEM looks like beyond computer screen, beyond programming. Lots of kids think about hacking when they think about computer science. So we’re expanding their perspective on what standards.”

The annual event will return in 2027.
