Groundbreaking for new BGFD and BGPD facility

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Right next to Bowling Green Fire Department’s station 5, a new facility will be erected to help both law enforcement and EMS.

Station 5 for a long time has served as the fire department’s training facility, but now a new building dedicated to the fire department and police department will serve as a not only a training facility but a new hub for disaster relief coordination efforts.

During the ground breaking ceremony, many people were there including city officials; but arguably the most important was Bill Waltrip a past police chief and city commissioner.

Waltrip said this was something he, Gary Brown and Chuck Coates talked about around 2005. Almost 20 years later, he said he’s looking forward to what will come of the new facility, saying training is one of the most important things to emergency service members.
