Graves Gilbert pulmonologist speaks about lung cancer during Lung Cancer Awareness Month
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month, and making sure you are aware of its impact is important.
We spoke to a pulmonologist at Graves-Gilbert Clinic in Bowling Green, who tells us lung cancer kills more women in the state of Kentucky than breast and colon cancer combined, and it’s the number one cause of death among cancers in men.
That’s why he says screenings are vital, and making sure they’re done early enough to catch it before it does become deadly.
“The best way to cure or treat lung cancer is to catch it early because when we catch it early enough, and we catch it when it’s stage one, lung cancer is curable and I don’t use that world lightly. If you’re stage one lung cancer, we can send you for surgery, have that part of the lung cut out or if you can’t tolerate surgery, then we can have that part radiated,” Dr. Karan Singh says.
He also says if you’re between the ages of 50 and 80, or if you smoke regularly, be sure to talk to your doctor to set up potential screenings.
