Governor orders flags to half-staff for overdose victims Saturday

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Flags will be lowered half-staff Saturday.
Governor Andy Beshear has ordered all state building flags to be lowered to half-staff on Saturday to honor victims of overdose. Gov. Beshear is also encouraging all Kentucky residents to join the state in remembrance.
The governor recently announced participation in Overdose Awareness Day, a global event held annually on August 31.
The governor’s mansion will be lit purple. Purple is the designated color to show support for overdose awareness.
“As we recognize Overdose Awareness Day here in the commonwealth, we remember all those we have lost – each one a beloved child of God who is missed by their families, friends and communities,” said Gov. Beshear. “We must work together in their honor – to ensure every Kentuckian has access to recovery resources. We can continue to see a decline in overdose deaths if we make sure every one of our neighbors feels loved and knows they are not alone.”
Overdose Awareness Day raises awareness of drug overdoses and aims to reduce social stigma.
