Governor Andy Beshear annouces waived GED testing fees

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Governor Andy Beshear announced Tuesday that Kentucky Skills U, an agency within the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet, will waive testing fees for Kentuckians seeking to earn a GED.

According to a news release, the GED testing fee is one of the most common barriers facing adults lacking education in Kentucky.

The cabinet allotted $600,000 in state funding to waive the $120 test fees for all four courses in the state.

The release says, Kentuckians who are either unemployed or underemployed due to lack of education will now have access to the education needed to place them on a meaningful career pathway as a result of GED attainment.

The director of adult education with SKYCTC’s Skills U says he is excited to see this change come to the state.

Officials say there are more than 335,000 Kentuckians without a GED or high school diploma in the state.
