Google Named In Federal Antitrust Suit

The U.S. Justice Department has announced an antitrust civil suit against tech giant Google. NBC's Jay Gray reports.

(NBC News) — The U.S. Justice Department has announced an antitrust civil suit against tech giant Google.

Searching, they say, for a “level playing field,” attorneys for the Department of Justice called Google, “a monopoly gatekeeper to the internet.”

At least 11-states are joining in the landmark federal antitrust case which accuses the company of maintaining a monopoly by “exclusionary practices” including contracts and business agreements that block competitors.

In a written statement Google calls the action “deeply flawed,” saying “People use Google because they choose to, not because they are forced to, or because they can’t find alternatives.”
