Glasgow police release updated information after sexual assault investigation

GLASGOW, Ky. – The Glasgow Police Department has released updated information after a recent sexual assault investigation.
On Friday, Feb. 6, the agency says after recently responding to a report of a sexual assault alleged to have occurred inside of a Walmart restroom, officers and detectives immediately began a thorough investigation.
Police say its team treated the report “with the seriousness such allegations demand.”
As the investigation continued, police say digital and physical evidence were obtained, which “refuted the legitimacy of these allegations.”
In addition, the department stated, “Allegations of this nature are incredibly serious and need to be thoroughly investigated before conclusions are made, not only for the integrity of the investigation but for public safety.”
The department confirms the person claiming to be the victim that reported the false incident will face criminal charges regarding the incident. That individual’s identity has not been released at this time.
The Glasgow Police Department further stated, “It is important to emphasize that our agency investigates many reports of sexual assault. The overwhelming majority are legitimate crimes involving real victims. False reports negatively impact other victims who want to report their trauma, while also undermining public trust and diverting critical emergency resources.”
The agency continued, stating, “Finally, we urge the public to exercise caution with social media speculation and rumor-sharing. Inaccurate information can cause unwarranted fear, public outrage and unfairly discredit the professionalism and training of responding officers who are following the protocols in place to investigate allegations in their totality. The Glasgow Police Department remains committed to conducting thorough, unbiased investigations and to supporting victims while ensuring accountability when false reports are made.”
