BOWLING GREEN, Ky-Today is Giving Tuesday, a day set aside to donate to community charities. And from puppies to people, the needs are diverse. And real. For some charities, like the Bowling Green-Warren County Humane Society, it means a chance to sharpen the focus from years past. Mallory O’Neil, the communications director for the shelter, says Giving Tuesday is a chance to better live out the shelter’s mission by saving lives of more dogs and cats with the extra money.
And people benefit, too. Carla Reagan, the director of the Hospitality House, says family members of patients of the Medical Center benefit because they can stay free of charge while their family members are in their hospital.
The need extends beyond Giving Tuesday. The Bowling Green-Warren County Humane Society needs volunteers and donations from a wish list year round. And the Hospitality House can use donations of cans of food and personal care items such as soap and shampoo on any given day.
There are other organizations, too.
