Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana hosting Summer Day Camp
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Girls from all over gathered for summer camp with the Girl Scouts. Now, this was a chance for them to learn leadership skills, make new friends and so much more.
Katie Marquardt, director of Houchens Day Camp, “It’s so fun to be here with all the girls and just see them all learning and playing, making friends. I think that’s the best part of camp, that the girls who are in my troop are going beyond our troop.”
All of the leaders and staff are volunteers, and for Rebecca Abis, a camp aide who’s been a part of Girl Scouts for more than a decade, she’s been an inspiration for the current Girl Scouts.
Abis, Camp Aid and ambassador, says, “Little kids, they love to cling to you. You’ll be there. You be positive, and you push them to be a leader that you’re trying to be.”
For some girls, this is another way to enjoy the outdoors, and for others – this is a chance to discover new things.
Ashlyn Jones, a Girl Scout, tells us, “….I’ve learned how to make Mori dolls like those, like, ribbons that they use in China. Girl Scouts is such a supplement to what you learn in school that you’re going beyond what teachers feel is important to learn.”
