Geoghegan takes the oath, becomes Warren District Judge
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Surrounded by friends, family and other jurists, Kimberly Geoghegan took the oath of office Sunday to become a Warren District Judge.
In a packed courtroom, Kentucky Supreme Court Chief Justice John Minton swore Geoghegan into office at the Warren County Justice Center.
Gov. Andy Beshear appointed Geoghegan to fill the vacancy in Warren District Court Division 1 vacated by Sam Potter when Potter retired last month.
She will have to run for election to the seat next year.
Geoghegan has worked in the Commonwealth’s Attorneys Office prosecuting felony offenders in Bowling Green for more than two decades and has extensive courtroom experience.
She hopes to start a juvenile drug court in an effort to prevent young people from becoming violent felony offenders, a trend she has watched for many years in the justice system.
“As the new district judge I will be presiding over probate hearings, small claims court, civil cases, criminal misdemeanor cases, traffic court, and juvenile offenders. One of my goals is to alleviate the backlog created by the pandemic, and also to provide additional treatment options for cases pending in district court,” said Geoghegan.
