Future Scotties Volleyball Camp helps kids learn the game

GLASGOW, Ky. – Young athletes took to the court in Glasgow on Monday for the Future Scotties Volleyball Camp.

The two-day camp, held at Glasgow High School, welcomed girls in first through sixth grade for an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of volleyball.

Campers practiced skills such as serving, passing, and teamwork while participating in drills and games led by Glasgow High School volleyball players.

Coaches say the camp is designed to help children build confidence, develop their athletic abilities and have fun while learning the sport.

“One little girl was talking with me during a break and told me she had been coming to camp for two years and that it’s what made her love volleyball,” said Elizabeth Wilson, head volleyball coach at Glasgow Middle School. “That’s really the goal: to help kids fall in love with the game and then see where it takes them.”

Organizers say the camp also provides young players with an opportunity to learn from older athletes while becoming more familiar with the Glasgow volleyball program.

The camp continues Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
