Fraternal Order of Police delivers food to the underserved

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Fraternal Order of Police was back at it again this weekend, trying to help out local families for the holidays.

Saturday, Dec. 17, they had their annual Christmas food basket event to look out for the Bowling Green community. Officers and volunteers were out early, loading up and shipping out food with the help of Houchens.

Mike Nade, treasurer for the Bowling Green chapter of the FOP said they “reached out to local organizations, like the housing authority, American Legion and also the family resource centers in the schools to figure out what families might need some help with food for the holidays.

When News 40 asked Nade about inflation, he admitted that it did make things tough, but they try to up their game a little more every year with this event, and this year it didn’t stop at just food boxes.

“We’re handing out 80 boxes this year, so we’re happy to do that, then we’re also giving them a gift card to Priceless to get some items that they might not have gotten in the box,” the treasurer said. The boxes included things like chicken, milk, eggs and an assortment of dry goods.

Of course, the FOP is a nonprofit, meaning they largely run off of donations to help support the community. So if you would like to donate to the Fraternal Order of Police, you can do so at https://kystatefop.com/local-lodge-directory/bowling-green-13/
