UPDATE: Simpson Co. Schools no longer under soft lockdown
FRANKLIN, Ky. – Franklin-Simpson middle and high schools are no longer under a soft lockdown following a reported threat Friday.
At about 2 p.m., the Kentucky State Police says it received a call about a school threat from a suicide hotline. KSP, Simpson County Sheriff’s Office, and Franklin Police Department responded to all Simpson County Schools.
Troopers say the schools were placed on a soft lockdown for the rest of school hours.
At this time, troopers say there are no indications of a credible threat to the schools, students or staff members.
Simpson County Schools superintendent Tim Schlosser has confirmed both schools are no longer under lockdown and have dismissed.
According to authorities, a high level of staff was present while all students were released on a normal schedule. As a precautionary measure, troopers say there will be an increase in law enforcement presence on school grounds until further notice.
The Franklin Police Department has since shared the following message on social media:
“The Franklin Police Department, along with the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office and the Kentucky State Police responded to the Franklin-Simpson High School in reference to an anonymous threat. It was determined through investigation that the threat was not credible. All units coordinated with school officials as well as the SRO’s of each school. All school systems went into their normal lockdown procedures. Officers remained on scene of all schools to ensure a safe dismissal from school.”
News 40 will continue to provide the latest updates as they are released.
