Formula Sun Grand Prix taking over NCM Motorsports Park
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A unique opportunity for engineering programs from across the country is making its way to Bowling Green.
The American Solar Challenge is a way for college engineering teams to build a completely solar powered car.
One of the biggest races, the Formula Sun Grand Prix, is taking place at the NCM Motorsports Park.
Some of the schools taking part this year include the University of Florida, University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Appalachian State University, University of the Pacific, University of Texas at Austin, Kennesaw State University, Purdue University, Western Michigan University, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, University of Kentucky, University of Minnesota, Virginia Tech, Iowa State University, Illinois State University and many more.
Teams put the finishing touches on their cars for Tuesday’s racing kickoff, and track staff say this is something you don’t wanna miss.
“On the heels of the all new Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray coming out, it’s the first hybrid Corvette that’s been produced in all wheel drive and all the cool that comes out of the just Corvette Town… for them to come in with this level of support from not only their colleges that are sponsoring them, but also manufacturer support… but it’s also neat for us to be able to expose other things to Bowling Green that people may not have seen otherwise,” Zach Rackovan with the NCM Motorsports Park says.
The races are open to the public for free and run July 16-18.
Last year’s winners, the University of Florida and Polytechnique Montreal look to defend their titles this year.
