Forbes excelling for Cardinals as team prepares for Omaha

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Louisville Cardinals baseball team is headed back to the Men’s College World Series for the first time since the 2019 season, and the team’s ace Patrick Forbes might be a familiar name to our viewers.

Forbes was the 2022 Mr. Kentucky Baseball winner in his senior season at Bowling Green High School, and while he starred on the field as a two-way Purple, slugging homers and striking out hitters, he now has shifted to a pitcher only role in his junior year for head coach Dan Mc-Donnell and the Cards.

He recently talked about the switch and how much it has helped his team get to where they are.

“ Being a two-way at the college level is tough. I kind of experienced it my freshman year, I was doing both. After my sophomore year, I kind of just decided I’m just going to stick with pitching,” said Forbes. “I do miss hitting at times. I’m thankful for all the memories that I had hitting in high school and my freshman year, but I’m glad I could just find a way to help the team, and that’s pitching.”

It’s clear the transition to being a full-time pitcher has worked out for Forbes, who in his two NCAA Tournament starts this season has seen immense success.

Forbes set a postseason strikeout record for the Cards in the team’s Nashville Regional opening win against East Tennessee State, where he punched out 13 Bucs, and in game one of the Super Regional against Miami, he struck out nine Hurricanes and allowed just one run, leading to a victory.

Now that the team is headed to Omaha, where they will begin with a matchup against Oregon State on Friday evening, Forbes is excited to take part in the experience.

“ I kind of plan to take a step back before I throw that first pitch and just kind of take it all in and be proud of how far I’ve come and how far the team has come because I don’t think a lot of people thought we would make it to this point,” said Forbes.
