First responders successfully rescue dog from cliff in Mercer County

MERCER COUNTY, Ky. – A dog found stranded on a cliff is now safe thanks to multiple emergency response agencies.
According to Jessamine County Emergency Management, on Thursday, the Jessamine County Fire Department received information about an animal in distress on the Mercer County side of the Kentucky River Palisades at Brooklyn.
Emergency officials say the dog was stranded on a cliff about 100 feet above the Kentucky River.
Mercer County Fire Protection District then requested the assistance from rope rescue technicians, officials say.
Members of Jessamine Fire and Nicholasville Fire, Jessamine Animal Care and Control and Jessamine Emergency Management responded to aid and helped supply a rope system on a farm overlooking the cliff.
A rescuer was lowered over the edge to reach the dog, according to officials, before both were brought back up by other rescuers.
Officials say the dog’s condition was assessed, and the animal was found to have a chip. They say they are working to make sure the dog is stable and try to contact the registered owners.
It is unknown how the dog reached the cliff or how long it was there.
