Feeding America partners with agencies to serve food deserts in Kentucky
SOUTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY – Several low-income areas across the Commonwealth are known as food deserts, but many organizations like Pathfinders and Feeding America are doing what they can to end hunger by reaching many counties.
Charles Dennis, executive director, says, “Looking at our 42-county service area, and, equally distributing our, you know, our food amongst all the communities that we serve. And so, you know, we look to have various agencies in each of the counties.”
Not only is the goal to provide food, but it’s also to fulfill the needs of families.
Dennis also says, “You know, these are tough, challenging times with, kind of, the economics of day-to-day life. And we know that with gas prices, other, you know, just the cost of everything going up, we found from a recent hunger study. We’ve done that. You know, families are really, really hurting. And sometimes we’ll have to make tough choices between things like rent or medicine and food.”
The next food distribution will be on May 21 at the Cave Area Convention Center.
More information on the next food distribution can be found on their website.
